Painting Over Blue

I come to you with my current baby dilemma. Baby # 2’s room happened to be baby boy blue when we moved in. As we start thinking about preparing the room for baby, we ask ourselves, “Should we paint over the blue?”  At two of our ultrasounds we got results that it will be another girl, however the results were not 100%. There was clear enough evidence to believe it is a girl, but it was not AS clear as the ultrasounds were with Kylee.

Jason and I feel like if we paint over the blue, we will jinxing ourselves and baby will surprise us by being a boy! Don’t get me wrong, that would be an AWESOME surprise, but a lot of work to change the room from pink! Jason says, “Let’s just wait until baby is here and do the room.” However I certainly won’t be up for shopping for all the matching room essentials after he/she is born! I know how I want to decorate for a girl, and am starting to get antsy to start in on the room (since we only have 6 weeks left!). So I ask you…….

Would YOU trust the 90% chance it’s a girl and paint over the blue?

YES! I am a little decorating obsessed though. :) If you’re really unsure, I would paint the room a neutral (beige or cream). Then you can add gender-specific artwork, or even paint some cute pink or blue stripes or polka-dots after the baby is born. :)

When I was pregnant last summer, we decided not to find out the gender. The baby room was already painted baby girl pink from when we moved in. We decided to do like Amanda (above) said….painted it cream. We did a Teddy Bear theme that would work either way. My thought is the baby will develop interests of his/her own at 2 or 3 years so we’ll wait until then to customize it and really go all out with a theme.
I know a lot of people are itching to go all out with decorating before the baby comes so I do understand that. There are so many cute neutral palettes that you may find you like them even better. I love the idea of painting cute polka dots or stripes later.

    By the way…we had a boy! :)

    Ha Kim,
You of all people should know better! Didn’t the doctors tell your mom you were suppose to be a boy? :-)
Are you reusing the crib bedding? If you are doing something new, maybe it doesn’t have to be pink – you could tone down the blue to a softer shade or more of a greenish blue. I’ve actually seen some really pretty baby girl bedding sets in trendy sophisticated blues and greens! Or what about tans/browns? You can pair lots of colors up with chocolate brown or a lighter tan shade and then if surprise she turns out to be a he… the wall color won’t necessarily have to change.
If it makes you feel better to get it done now, then just do it. You can always call on me to help repaint the room if needed! :-)
