I LOVE music. I generally love all music, well, except for country. I’m sorry, okay?! I just don’t love the songs all about their achey breaky hearts, or dogs, or trucks…did I lose all readers who love country music? Come back, I won’t bash it anymore-promise! Like Lynn wrote beautifully the other day, music is just a part of every day, every experience. When I heard Mandisa’s new song “Overcomer” I hurriedly pulled up my itunes and purchased it. I looked up the lyrics and was so moved by them, thinking about so many ways the song resonated with my own life. I spent years trying to lose weight and have successfully been on that journey for a year and a half now. I spent my childhood avoiding running and this past year running every chance I got. I overcame the one mile last year and moved onto a relay leg in the QC Marathon this past Sunday-4.2 miles!
As I was running what was to me, a difficult run, I was surrounded by people who were finishing their hours long run of 26.2 miles. Amazing. They certainly had overcome so much to be there. We all have certain points in our life where we have to bear down, dig deep, and get through difficult times. Our oldest daughter recently had to undergo testing for some health issues that were hard for her to endure. I struggled watching her have to go through it, wanting to ease her pain and take it for her. Then I watched her grab hold of her growing faith, and trust that God would take care of her and get her through it. She made it through an uncomfortable bladder/kidney test and came out smiling on the other side!
We are all on different journeys in life, which is why I feel a community like the moms blog is so vital. When we struggle, or succeed, or just want to know that we’re not the only mom who has scars on her feet from stepping on a lego, we need each other. Whether we have overcome the tough stuff already, or are working through overcoming-we need all the support we can get. If you haven’t seen the video yet, it’s a tearjerker, but I still suggest watching it as its SO inspiring.
What are you overcoming or what have you overcome?
