You know where this is going, right? It’s FINALLY Spring! Seriously, have we EVER had a Winter that long, and that cold, and with that much snow?! Not in my lifetime at least, and I hope that we never do again! I’ll admit, I did not like the person (especially the mom) that I was turning into during those months. Nowhere to go, too much hassle to bundle all three kids in fourteen layers of clothing just to go to the grocery store, and therefore nothing to eat! No fresh air, no vitamin D from the precious sunshine, and no outdoor space for my two rowdy boys (and girl!) to wrestle and play superheroes. Enough already!
These past couple weeks have been like a brand new beginning for me. Daylight Savings Time brings a whole new outlook on life, doesn’t it? It’s like we all start to crawl out of our seasonal depression (we all have some level of it, don’t we? or is it just me?) and re-join the real world. We can finally wear our cute little flats with no socks…instead of socks, with leggings, and jeans, crammed into our boots with leg warmers! We can finally let the kids run around outside, ride their bikes, and take them on walks to the park (one of my FAVORITE things). Finally, finally, finally!
Over this past weekend, we went to my in-law’s house for Easter dinner. What a beautiful day. We ate on the back deck, and the kids ran around blowing bubbles and sword-fighting. As we sat there for a while, the sun was really beating down, and all of the sudden I felt the need to go inside. I hadn’t dressed for such warm weather, and I felt sweaty and uncomfortable in my jeans. But then all of the sudden, it hit me. How ungrateful of us! We have been waiting for what seemed like an eternity for this weather to come, and now we’re going to complain about it? Nope, not me! Instead of going inside, we rounded up the kids and went for a family walk, from one set of grandparents’ house to the other one. We had a wonderful time, and by the time we drove home, 2 of our 3 children succumbed to the fresh-air coma and passed out in their carseats.
This morning, I went to the doctor’s office and the nurse, making polite conversation, says to me “Is it warming up out there?” “Yes,” I answered, “it’s so nice to have warm weather again!”. We talked for a few minutes about the terrible winter and what a relief it is to see the sunshine. After she left the room, I heard her talking to another patient in the hall. “Beautiful weather today, isn’t it?” she asked him. “Well, it could be a little warmer” he answered. Ahhh….some people just don’t get it, do they?
How about you? Are you singing a happy tune now that we can go and play outside? What are your favorite things to do during the Springtime?
