quad cities fun runs for kids {closed}

Now that spring is finally here, it has been wonderful to get our children outside in the fresh air.  From soccer camps to playing at local parks, the Quad Cities has endless opportunities to keep your kids active, while having fun.  One of my favorite ways to promote an active lifestyle is through local fun runs for kids.  Races are a great way to keep yourself active and promote a healthy lifestyle for your children.  I don’t mind spending the money on registrations for my kids, because the fun runs are a way keep them excited about being active and healthy and the proceeds of most races benefit our community and local charities.

Below I am highlighting two of my favorite fun runs for kids in the Quad Cities and list all of the races that have kids fun runs (with links to information/registration) below.  Comment on this post with your favorite Quad Cities area race (for you or your kids) and be entered to win a free ‘kids fun run’ registration to one of the following races: Run 4 the Hills, Color the Quads, Firecracker Run, Freedom Run and Quad City Marathon Happy Joe’s Kids Micro-Marathon.

RUN 4 THE HILLS – Saturday, June 7

The Run 4 the Hills Cross Country Experience Race is put on The Friends of the Bettendorf Parks Foundation, which helps fund many aspects of local parks from lighting and signage to dog park amenities and waterless restrooms.  What I appreciate most about the foundation is it’s dedication to funding park activities for special needs children and providing financial support for families with financial difficulties, allowing all children to participate in park activities.

COLOR THE QUADS – Saturday, May 31

Color the Quads supports the Quad Cities and surrounding communities by bringing a ton of colorful happiness to the Quad Cities and helping out local charities. Color the Quads is a fun race where participates begin wearing all white and are sprayed with powdered paint throughout the race.  The 2014 Mel Foster Color the Quads benefits three wonderful organizations, the Child Abuse Council, Rick’s House of Hope and the local chapter of March of Dimes – Mississippi Valley Division.  The 400 yard dash and one mile fun runs are a hit with young kids as they combine two of their favorite things…being messy and running wild!

    Thank you for this blog post. My daughter is 2 and LOVES running. I have been meaning to research the kids runs for her. My husband and I both really enjoy the Quad City Triathlon (sprint distance), but have taken a break from participating until the kids are bigger (no option for kids and currently no time to train properly for parents!).

    Thanks for the shout out on our One Tough Cookie kids run! We are excited to offer a mud and obstacle run for kids (they’re hard to find) and 100% of the proceeds go to Girl Scouts in eastern Iowa and western Illinois! If you have any questions visit our website. We’d love to see you there!

    I’ve done several runs, pushing the kiddos in the stroller, and the Freedom Run was great last August. Really patriotic and people all throughout East Moline were waving flags, giving high fives, and cheering everyone on. It really was a great community and patriotic event. And my kiddos were waving at everyone like they were on a carriage ride- lol.

    There are many great races in the Quad Cities. Wells4wellness is a great one, with proceeds used in the right way. Many races are mostly for awareness of a cause. Awareness is important too, but some fundraising races use the money directly for their mission. Anyway, 5K races are fun and addictive!
